Method of Injection
Using needles of various widths, tiny droplets of ink are meticulously placed in the upper dermis using a pattern that resembles hair growth. Conventional methods of tattooing deliver the ink to the middle layer of the dermis, but this can cause fading and bleeding of the colors. Instead, the specialized ink is delicately placed in the upper dermis, so it stays in place. The angle and the depth that the needle is placed will depend on the operator’s skill level and should be taken into consideration to deliver the most realistic results. Each person’s scalp has unique levels of needle resistance based on their amount of body fat, scarring, and skin turgor. Sophisticated versions of the scalp micropigmentation process employ computer-guidance systems for permanent and better results.
Pigments Used
The pigments used in scalp micropigmentation are specially blended to match the user’s desired hue, which may be influenced by skin tone, eyebrow coloration, and facial hair. Unlike tattoo ink, the ink that is used for the scalp is not made from composite sources, meaning the colors won’t separate into blues and greens over time. The amount of heavy metals contained in scalp micropigmentation ink is very low, and each drop is carefully placed with some separation to recreate a natural look. Because the ink is so close to the surface of the skin, it is more vulnerable to UV radiation, which is another reason that tattoo ink should not be used.
