The Dangers of Cheap Hair Transplants

Dangers of Cheap Hair Transplants

With a recent increase in the number of hair transplants that occur, it’s no small wonder that many shady businesses are trying to pick up the practice too—granted, at a severely reduced price. This gambit is by and large meant only to line the pockets of businesses who would love your cash, but don’t quite care about the results. With every treatment you’ll have in life, it’s incredibly important that you do your research, find good salons, and decide if the higher price is worth it. A lower price, while exciting in prospect, can mean permanent damage.

First and foremost, it’s important to note that hair transplants are an incredibly invasive procedure. A surgeon will remove a strip of skin from the back of the head, hopefully where longer hair can still hide a scar, and will harvest the still-growing hair follicles to then replace on the top of your scalp where you’re balding. Even in the best of circumstances, this treatment is not always 100% effective, and even when results are good enough for a patient to be satisfied, they’re still left with a large, noticeable scar on the back of the head. Remember, this is even in the best of situations. Now, imagine the cheaper options.

Keep in mind that the people who offer treatment at severely reduced costs are looking to cut corners any way they can. That could mean inappropriate or even unsanitized tools. You could end up with nerve damage, infections, or even inaccurate incisions. There’s a possibility of allergic reactions to anesthesia in any practice, but that risk is extraordinarily higher in a facility that advertises hair transplants at a cost that is suspiciously low. A good practice will always work to minimize risks but recognize the actual cost of doing so.

If you’ve undergone a hair transplant, especially one that went poorly or didn’t work at all, the results can be masked with a different treatment: scalp micropigmentation. The procedure is non-invasive and done in as few as two sessions.
