Bald heroes and antiheroes unite! It has been a few weeks since Avengers: Endgame came out in theatres and we’ve already seen it a couple of times over. On the heels of so much Marvel love, this is the perfect time to highlight two of our favorite things: baldness and comics. Here are some iconic bald Marvel characters that deserve a shoutout this week:
Nick Fury
Nick Fury is an iconic Marvel character, portrayed most notably by Samuel Jackson. His primary function in the Avengers film franchise is to curate and assemble the team of Avengers. Unfortunately, in the films, this task overshadows much of his backstory. Despite not being showcased as much as Iron Man, the Hulk, or Captain America in the films, Nick Fury’s credentials are no less impressive. As a former Colonel with the United States Army and a spy for the Central Intelligence Agency during the Cold War, Fury continues his service when he joins S.H.I.E.L.D., a secret organization formed to save humanity from threats.
Silver Surfer
The Silver Surfer is most famous for appearances in the Fantastic Four comics. As his name suggests, he travels atop a surf-like craft. The Silver Surfer, originally known as Norrin Radd, was once an astronomer who devoted his life to the villain Galactus in order to save his home planet of Zenn-La. In return for his devotion, Radd was transformed into the Silver Surfer and imbued with some of Galactus’s powers in order to do his evil bidding. It wasn’t until traveling to Earth that the Silver Surfer began fighting for good. With help from the Fantastic Four, the Silver Surfer rediscovered his sense of compassion and humanity.
Deadpool
Deadpool has embodied a range of roles, from supervillain to humourous antihero. Deadpool is a skilled mercenary with a unique ability to heal rapidly from serious injuries. He’s widely beloved among many fans for his sense of humor, quick wit, and an unrelenting commitment to pranks. Ryan Reynolds has portrayed Deadpool in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Deadpool, and Deadpool 2. Though the comics are published by Marvel, Deadpool has not yet made an appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
