It's Time to Rediscover Confidence

Is my hair loss temporary or permanent?

In the beginning stages, temporary and permanent hair loss are extremely similar. That’s why to determine the seriousness of your condition, you will often have to examine any changes in habits, diets, medication, or exercise that could be the cause. Hair, especially in later stages of life, can be finicky and relatively unpredictable, meaning any minor tweak in your lifestyle can lead to hair loss. It’s important that if you begin to notice any problems with your scalp that you contact your doctor to discuss what may be the cause.

For the most part, temporary hair loss has a very sudden onset that will almost directly coincide with a major change. If you begin to take a different medication or are pregnant, this side effect will most often develop quickly. In general, any pills or conditions that interfere with your hormones are huge triggers for hair thinning and hair loss. Though most often hair growth can be reinstated, some temporary hair loss conditions can permanently affect the style and thickness of your hair.

Permanent hair loss, on the other hand, is usually genetic and occurs once an individual reaches a certain age. The most common types of permanent hair loss are male and female patterned baldness and some forms of alopecia. Rather than hair falling out sporadically, such as in a temporary hair loss condition, permanent hair loss will appear as a receding hairline or thining in certain areas. If you suspect permanent hair loss, you should contact a doctor or other family members to see if they suffer from any such conditions.
